“That which does not kill me strengthens me.”
Nietzsche
Sleepy Stuart, Florida is the setting for a tale involving a drugged double agent that ‘Mack’ McCray transports back from Chicago. The agent’s identity is compromised and his handlers are concerned he will reveal the identity of other agents. Brought onto the airplane in a wheelchair fully sedated, the man wakes up in the Atlanta Airport and is run down, tackled and sedated again. Mack meets a sweet flight attendant who turns out to be another agent in disguise. Once in Stuart a psychotic nurse takes control of the mystery man and spirits him away to a secret location on Sewall’s Point for interrogation. She was raised on a farm in South Africa and is an expert in the use of a blowgun and blending of highly toxic African Bushman poisons.
Before he unravels a mysterious link to his questionable past, Mack receives a round-trip ticket to Honolulu from an old friend. He requests that Mack come to Hawaii and bring back to Stuart a pair of covertly trained ‘killer’ dolphins hidden in an island cave. Mack stumbles across the Navy’s Top Secret “Swimmer Nullification Program.” He meets an ex-Navy SEAL who takes him for the ride of his life on a parasail boat while being chased by a Navy patrol boat. While in Hawaii Mack and Tina McShay have a frantic encounter with Kalai-pahoa, the Hawaiian Poison God, and an ancient Hawaiian Kahuna full of trickery and deception.
Intrigue, mystery, suspense and humor, plus a touch of Florida history, are expertly woven together to form a dual plot. As with his first book, Treasure Coast DECEIT, McElroy keeps the reader turning pages without revealing the conclusion until the last paragraph of the last chapter.
